Put a little glow into your XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii controllers

Performance Designed Products is announcing their new product line for use with the Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, and Microsoft Xbox 360.

“Too often third-party controllers focus exclusively on either appearance or features,” said Gerry Block, Director of Product Development at California-based PDP, “Our goal for the AFTERGLOW™ line was to unite these two themes, creating controllers with both amazing looks as well as performance and comfort improving features.”

The appearance of the AFTERGLOW™ controllers is defined by clear a polycarbonate body plastic, within which red, blue, or green circuit boards and components reside. Amplifying the theme, multitudes of LEDs within the controllers glow in hues matching the circuit board color. The result is a truly vibrant glow in both light and dark gaming situations.

“The controllers look spectacular,” noted Gerry Block, “but of course the lighting can be disabled when players need to summon their full attention for the game. On that note, each controller features performance-enhancing elements to help gamers play at the pinnacle of their performance.”

PDP’s AFTERGLOW™ product line will appear at retailers across the U.S. in late April 2010.

A look at Hyperkin’s PS3 Text Link Remote

Great as a remote, not as a controller (unless you have teeny tiny fingers)

I only recently purchased a PlayStation 3 and immediately I was troubled by the difficulty in chatting with someone or sending messages. Hell it’s taken me a week to figure out how to delete messages. I came from the ease of XBOX Live so I was a bit thrown off. Needless to say I was excited to get my hands on the Text Link Remote from Hyperkin when it arrived in the mail.

The Text Link does it’s best to solve all of your movie, music and game navigation problems in one six inch controller. Does it do it? Well… we’ll get to that.

Off the bat, it is very easy to hook up. There is no syncing needed, you just plug and play. I was immediately able to take over control of the PS3 with it, although it does not have the ability to power it on and off like other controllers do. The Text Link comes with a USB cord (keep in mind you can use the one from your controller too) as well as a USB receiver which has a simple design that will pick up the wireless signal.

Upon first glance it looks like your basic television/cable controller but once you flip it sideways and slide the top up you get the full qwerty keyboard along with the complete set of PS3 controls. While it is cool to have a remote that looks and works like a “feature” phone keep in mind that everything is crammed in very tight. While it does have a left and right analog stick they are so tiny that they are hard to use. I don’t feel like I have over-sized thumbs but in using this controller/keyboard I repeatedly felt like I did. While using the arrow keys on the controller part I often hit one of the square/triangle/circle/x buttons and while trying to type a message to a friend I hit the wrong letter a lot. Thank god there is a backspace button.

The Text Link can be used as your primary controller but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have extreme patience. Again, everything is miniature so it will be easier to use the smaller or more agile your fingers and thumbs are. While using the Text Link as a controller I found my character moving in ways I didn’t want him to and trying to execute button combos was tough. Possibly with patience and practice it could work for you and it sure would come in handy if your Mom or Dad punish you by taking your main controller away.

All in all I think Hyperkin had good things in mind while creating the Text Link. This is the first 3rd party remote to do everything that it does. I just don’t know that it was all thought out properly. I have average gamer hands and while the whole piece feels good to hold everything is too compact for me. After a couple days of use the section that slides up is sticking a little and the left analog stick doesn’t seem to want to go to the right, I hate to lump that into the official review because I doubt each of them are like that. If you are looking for an easier way to navigate and send messages I think the Text Link will do the trick but you need to be comfortable with the small controls and you need to be alright with the $30 to $40 price tag.

Be cautious before spending the cash on Hyperkin’s Text Link.

Featuring integrated Motion Plus

Sunflex Europe, known for high-tech gaming accessories of the brand snakebyte for all gaming consoles, handhelds and the PC, has used the last few months to improve the Remote XL+ with new features:

Motion Plus integrated:
Motion Plus is already integrated in the remote to offer you a comfortable all-in-one solution, which automatically (de)activates the Motion Plus feature while playing games which do, or do not support Motion Plus.

Increased range:
The integrated camera was emphatically improved and now also offers you the possibility to step away up to 16 feet from the Sensor Bar.

ECO-Mode:
Thanks to improved efficiency, the Remote XL+ uses less energy than comparable products on the market. The batteries have a longer life, therefore reducing the environmental pollution.

Integrated batteries and charging possibility via USB:
The Remote XL+ already has batteries included in the delivery which can be charged via USB directly in the remote. A USB cable is also included in the set. Since the batteries are off-the-shelf items, they can be exchanged with any other AA batteries at any time without having to buy expensive accessories.

External sync button:
Because the sync button is on the outside of the remote, you do not have to open the battery compartment to synchronize your remote with the Wii.

Check it out in April!

Just don't text on your PS3 controller while you are driving.

Like other systems on the market, video games are not the only thing they are good for. Music, photos, chatting, and movies can all be a part of the fun and Hyperkin is looking to make it much more convenient.

The PS3 Text Link Remote is the first 3rd party remote for PS3 that combines full remote functionality with the convenience of a sliding QWERTY keyboard. This new remote will allow gamers to control their Blu-ray & DVD movies, CD’s and other media files all from one controller while also using the keyboard to text buddies across the Playstation Network.
Making your PS3 a whole lot cooler

Nyko Technologies today announced the shipment of its Intercooler Slim for PlayStation 3 Slim to major North American retailers. Designed for use with the PS3 Slim, the latest edition to Nyko’s popular Intercooler line of game console cooling devices offers both convenience and functionality.

The Intercooler Slim boasts three powerful fans reducing the ambient air temperature by moving hot air away from the console. For customized cooling, a high/low fan switch enables you to choose how much air flow is needed. The Intercooler Slim is easily snapped onto the back of the console requiring no tools or other modifications, and with its patented power pass through connection, this cooling device requires no AC adapter. The Intercooler Slim can be used with the PS3 Slim in both vertical and horizontal positions and automatically turns on and off with the console.

“The Intercooler line has been one of the most successful accessories for this generation of consoles,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to continue the line on the new PS3 Slim with the features that made previous iterations so successful.”

The InterCooler Slim is available now at major North American retailers for an MSRP of $19.99. Connect with Nyko for your chance to win exciting Nyko prizes on Twitter or on Facebook.
