Sometime after the release of Electronic Arts NASCAR 09, it was announced that we wouldn’t be seeing a 2010 version of maybe my favorite sports franchise on a video game console. Talk about your ultimate let down! MMA instead of bumper to bumper hardcore racing action? For the love of Cole Trickle! For our educated readers…that was foreshadowing.
Paramount Digital Entertainment and Piranha Games are ready to drop the green flag on their arcade racing game Days of Thunder coming to a Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac near you. This downloadable title will pit gamers up against the films characters such as Cole Trickle, Rowdy Burns and the Frisco Burger eating punk Russ Wheeler (I realize that maybe four of you got the Hardee’s reference but that’s okay.) Days of Thunder will have both single and multiplayer challenges that will have racers competing to get to the top of the leader board to battle for the love of Dr. Claire Lewicki (hottie Nicole Kidman – and I just made the love part up, nobody wants that crap in a video game!)
Here are some of the features you can expect from Days of Thunder:
• Multiplayer will be head to head 12 player racing action
• Four single player modes including Quick Race, Time Trial, Career Mode (4 different circuits), and a Derby Mode that is a unlockable destruction mode that has the player who doesn’t break down labeled the winner.
• Race against the studs from the movie and their own film specific racing style.
• Three different classes of car: Russ Wheeler’s light and fast ride, Cole Trickle’s perfectly balanced car or Rowdy Burn’s heavy, damage dealing car.
• Drop the Hammer while drafting other cars to sling shot into the lead.
• Damage meter to let the driver know when it’s time to pull into the pits and take part in mini games repairing damage, refueling or to build up your hammer meter.
• Fully customizable vehicles
• Achievements and Trophies
What do you think the chances of participating in the classic rental car race to dinner scene are? I won’t hold my breath but that sure would be fun. In the words of Harry Hogge, make sure “those tires are matched perfect and staggered special” and look for Days of Thunder to hit the Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, PC and Mac summer of 2010.
“He didn’t slam you, he didn’t bump you, he didn’t nudge you….he rubbed you, and rubbing son is racin!” I can’t wait.
Nascar is the sport of farmland hee-haws. Weee lets drive around in a circle for three hours and make it so everyone can go exactly the same speed. Mount some turrets on the cars and I would watch.
